ATTN: Personal Trainers

How Much are You Getting Done?

personal trainer sticky note

An old friend of mine popped in to the office the other day and we spent a few hours catching up on each other’s life. I showed him the 3 different businesses I was running and most of the work that is involved.

He has a 9 - 5 and like most people he admits he only actually works for a few hrs each day, between espn news online and a few games of solitaire:)

He couldn’t believe I was getting soo much done without absolutely losing my mind. I realized that being productive is a challenge and it takes practice and a lot of trial and error.

So, I figured I would start a series of blog posts about “HOW to BE PRODUCTIVE LIKE A MADMAN”. Not just with your Personal Training Business but with your personal life as well.

Part 1 - The Problem with TO DO Lists

Honestly, for most people (including me) it is vital to use a To Do list. But there is a very specific formula for using these lists successfully. The first thing you will need is a dry erase board or a calender. First, sort your tasks based on importance. I usually sort by which tasks will directly increase my revenue and start with those first.

At the end of each night, write on the board the 2-3 Major things that need to be done the next day. Lists are overwhelming, if you only have a few things to do you will likely get them done.

If you end up finishing those few tasks move on to the next thing on your list.

In the next blog post I will cover time blocking, and email management, how to take control of your inbox again…

Until next time,

Keith

Personal Training Marketing Tip of the Week!

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

Each week I will give you a quick tip that will help you grow your personal training business. I will keep it short and sweet and to the point. I will attempt to make these marketing tips practical and useful, and I will continue to deliver as long as you act on them. These tips will not be in order, as I typically write these when Im inspired by something in my business.

Personal Trainer Marketing Tip #1 - Diversify your lead sources. First, write down your current lead sources, where are you getting your leads? You need to have 3-5 major lead sources. Why? Because, when the idiots in the media talk about poor economies and possible recessions it can hurt your business bad. Be honest with yourself when you are answering these questions…

Are you getting referrals? If so how often?

What % of your leads come from the internet? What specific online sources are bringing you leads? You should have at least 3 online lead sources. (search engine rankings, ppc leads, craigslist, blogs, banner ads)
How many successful JV (joint venture) partnerships do you have?

Would your business survive if the internet ended tomorrow?

Despite this morning’s national news of a possible serious recession, one of my clients (personal trainer) called me to tell me how he brought in 10k last week for his training business. He did this by diversifying his lead sources.

If you have any questions on how you can diversify your lead sources for your training biz, please let me know. Thanks!
