Personal Trainer Domain Names – 3 Tips to Making Great Money With Domain Names

personaltrainingdollars.jpg

How much is your domain name worth? If you closed your business tomorrow would you be able to sell your domain?

I bet you probably never even thought about it. Most people don’t. Here’s why you should…

Domain names can sell for hundreds, thousands, even millions of dollars. Granted you had to be real early in the domain buying game to have scooped up a diamonds.com (sold for 7 million) However, internet domains are sold like real estate, they can be flipped, appreciate, depreciate, and sold for big dollars.

I own a few that hold some descent value. (225 in total) The most I have been offered to date is $2000 though I have not actively promoted any of my domain names. On this particular one I’m holding out because it is worth more.
So how do you know what your domains are worth? Here are a few key tips…

1. How clickable is your personal trainer domain name? Meaning if you sold it, would someone be able to use it? If your domain name was an ad, would you want to click on it?

Ex. JoesPersonalTraining.com This domain name may be good for joe, but it would not hold a lot of value in the open market. In contrast, something like www.personaltraining.com holds much more value.

2. Does the domain get traffic? People love to buy domain names that already get traffic. It means that they are probably in google’s index and that they have the potential for better search engine rankings. Domain names without traffic are like billboards on dirt roads with no passing cars. There are many exceptions to this rule and most of my domain names don’t have traffic or a website even and they are still valuable. If you have a great domain name, it doesn’t have to have traffic to be worth a lot of money.

3. Are all the good domain names taken? I have to admit it seems like all the great domain names are taken, but that’s not the case. You just have to be a little creative and sometimes lucky. Less than 1 yr ago I was able to purchase (register) a great domain name … www.ThePerfectWeddingDress.com

Now come on, what woman would not click on an ad with that domain name. There are plenty of geeks I mean people like me that stay up to the wee hrs of the morning trying to think of new domain names. I look at it as a lottery ticket, it only costs $8 to register a domain name. If you can flip that domain name for a couple grand or more I’d say it is worth it

Let’s look at my wedding domain and a few of the factors I mentioned earlier.

Is it highly clickable? YES

Would I be able to sell it to just about anybody? YES

Will it stand the test of time? YES

So if you are interested, bidding starts at 5k. Just kidding, no im not?

I have spent many a late nights on godaddy racking my brain for great new domain names. Do I recommend you deprive yourself of sleep, or break up your marriage over domain name addictions, of course not. In fact, you should probably spend the extra time growing your existing business. But if you ever have an idea for a new domain name, personal trainer related or not, go to godaddy and see if it is available.

Best of Luck!

The Biggest Mistake Behind Most Business Promotions

What do you think is the biggest mistake behind your promotions and most of the other promotions you see. Is it the offer? Not usually. Is it the message? Sometimes. But more times than not the single most common mistakes that cause most promotions to achieve mediocre results is….. (drum roll please)

REASON WHY – It’s one thing to offer a promotion, and another to justify why you are offering such a great deal. There have been numerous studies that make my point a credible one.

A study comprised of 2 hurried passengers approaching a jam packed security line at a busy U.S. airport. (not at the same time of course)

Case Study #1 approached the members in the line and said, “excuse me can I go in front of you” I don’t remember the exact numbers but I believe less than 20% of the people in line would let them cut.

Case Study # 2 approached the line and said “excuse me can I go in front of you, my plane is leaving soon and my wife is having our baby”. Over 75% of people were willing to let him cut.

Why? Because he gave them a reason why. That’s it. We are all people, we all have the same feelings. (well I’m not sure about some of you animals:)

So a 25% off promotion might work ok, But, it would work much better if you gave them a reason why. So what are the reasons why? That’s up to you to decide. You can be as creative as you want to be. Did you know there are holidays for just about every day of the year. There are holidays that are absolutely ridiculous, but you can use them to promote your personal training business or studio.

I’m guilty of this “NO Reason Why” sometimes as well. I will tell you from experience, your promotions will do much better if you give them a reason why.

One of the best I have seen, was a marketing expert Yanik Silver, who wanted to sell his old products. So he took a picture with all the extra boxes of products and called it the help save Yanik’s Marriage Sale. Basically, that his wife was going to divorce him if he didn’t get rid of all the damn boxes.

Brilliant. The products flew off the shelf even though people knew he was only kidding.

The key is to be creative, just don’t offend people unless of course that was part of your plan.

Get to it,

A Tip for You and Your Personal Training Business..

Friday, April 4th, 2008

Warning: This may hurt a little, but it is for your own good and your future personal and business success depends on it.

Removing the “Red Lights” and “Motivation Vampires” from your business and life.

No matter how high you climb, there will always be someone or something that will try to bring you down.

You need to recognize the people and things that are bringing you down, And when you see them, run… run away as fast as you can. Their negativity will devour you.

Have you experienced this before? You come up with a great idea, or accomplish something exciting, and you share it with your friend, your uncle, or your colleague…. Only to be shot down with some BS pessimistic attitude.

It happened to me the other day. I was at a party and someone asked me what I did for a living. I told him “I have a few internet businesses” , he replied with “oh, so you’re unemployed”. It took everything I had to not give him a right hook right in front of every one at the party.

Instead, I said “yeah, pretty much” and walked away. I refuse to have some schmuck pour his negative energy all over me and bring me down. There are millions of people like this dumbass, everywhere, take a look around you.

You have to be willing to fire people from your life, even your closest friends and family members. I’m not saying you should love them any less, but I am saying you need to limit the amount of time you spend with them if they the suck the positive energy out of you. Unless of course you can convince them to stop being so damn negative. Tell them that you don’t want to talk about the economy, gas prices, or George Frekin’ Bush!

The sooner you embrace this and accept it the more successful you will be. It is a real challenge to stand up for yourself and take the power back, the power of what you hear, and what influences you. It’s ok to say NO.

Say no to the media, say no to your friends, say no to all the people that try to bring you down.

Taking control of your time and energy is NOT a free ticket to just be rude and selfish. Ok, maybe just a little bit selfish, but in a good way.

Trading Time For Money, and How to Fix This…

Monday, March 10th, 2008

Forgive me for assuming, but it is my initial impression that you went into business for yourself, so you could do your own thing and make enough money to fulfill your dreams. If not, we need to talk:)

The trouble with personal training, fitness pro’s and many other businesses is that we trade our time for money. Unfortunately, time is a fixed variable and there is no known way to create more. So eventually, you run out of time and your income is capped. Am I right?

There are only so many hrs per week, and you can only have so many sessions in one day. Typically, when a great trainer’s schedule becomes full they look to hire more trainers. This is a crucial yet very difficult step. It is hard to find great people and even harder to find people that train, teach or sell as good as you do.

If you have not faced this decision yet, you soon will. (especially if you follow our advice and strategies:)

Here is what I recommend. First, identify your strengths and weaknesses. Hire someone that is strong, where you are weakest.

Second, think about ways to earn income that do not require your time (by the hour)

If you are interested in ways to do this please let me know, and I will write some posts about it. Thanks!

The Lesson I Learned the Hard Way This Weekend…

Monday, February 25th, 2008

So it was a typical Friday, I was running thru my to do list while listening to a teleseminar on how to market your business with social marketing like facebook, mypace, etc. All was going well until my computer powered off by itself. When I restarted it I got the blue screen of death, some thing about “fatal errors, physical memory dump”, or something like that. It might as well have said “dude, you’re screwed”.

No need to panic right, a savy web guy like myself has all of his files backed up… or so I thought. I pulled out my mac laptop and plugged in my external hard drive and realized that I was backing up the shortcuts to my files not the files themselves. “what an idiot”!

At this point my computer smelled like it was burning from the inside out. I waited a while and turned it back on. This time windows loaded properly and I immediately began to back up my files. Of course, half way thru the back up the computer powered itself off.

So I realized that I only have a few minutes to backup as many files as I can before this thing blows. It was like an episode of 24, I was watching the little folders throw the pages back and forth saying, “come on, come on, you can do it”. Threw in about a dozen prayers, and it was a race against the clock.

My prayers were answered and I successfully backed up my files just seconds before the computer crashed.

Learn from my lesson, and back up your files right now. Especially your photos and personal documents. External hard drives range from $99-$499 or more but it will be the best couple hundred bucks you spend, I assure you of that.

Even external hard drives can crash or fail, to be on the safe side burn all your important photos and doc on to cd rom or dvd as well.

Go do it right now!
