MARCH MADNESS IS BACK!

Monday, March 17th, 2008

Productivity across the U.S is about to take a serious hit. For the next three weeks millions of people (including me) will be glued to the TV to watch to dozens of college basketball games. March madness is truly one of my favorite times of the year!

I figured it would be fun to use it as a reason to give one of you guys some free stuff. All you have to do is tell me which team you think will win the Championship and you could win some real cool stuff including a new personal trainer marketing product I’m working on now that hasn’t even been released yet.

No brackets to fill out, no basketball knowledge required, a 5 yr old could do this….

Are you dominating your market?

Monday, March 17th, 2008

I have just finished my quarterly Client Review and despite what so many “experts” are saying, you still can DOMINATE the search engines and many of my clients are.

One of my clients has 4 out of the top ten spots in google, and 6 out of the top ten spots in MSN. I’m not bragging, I was a bit surprised to see it myself. It is getting harder to dominate the search engines, but is still possible and man is it worth it.

Here’s how to dominate your market:

Keep it Fresh: If you website is stale it will decrease the chances of maintaining or gaining great rankings. Update your site as often as possible with testimonials, new content, a blog, latest news, etc.

Multiple Sites: There is nothing unethical about having more than one website and getting it to rank in google. Google doesn’t really care, as long as the site content is relevant and provides value to the searcher.

Get Listed in As Many Directories as Possible: You will find that certain directories rank very well, many of them are free. Spend a few minutes, look at the top 30 spots for your search term and see what is available.

Don’t Be Cheap: You can increase your exposure right now, by using PPC (pay per click marketing) Is there a specific neighborhood or town you would like to be listed in? That is exactly what makes ppc marketing so great. Not to mention by using ppc, you can send visitors to a specific page that has a specific offer (other than the main offer on your site) This way you can test offers, headlines, etc with a very small budget. *This is something you want to put on your to do list, trust me:)

How much exposure are you getting from the search engines? What if you had one or two more of the top ten positions?

If you are interested in learning more, please let me know and I will post more in detail info on how personal trainers can dominate their market with multiple search engine listings.

My Debut in the NBA…

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

This time last year I went 6 for 6 from 3 Point range and scored 24 points in a very close basketball game here in Chicago. Ok, so it was only a rec league game, and I was not playing in the NBA. But there is a chance I will someday…. (keep reading)

It has always been my dream to play professional basketball. For those of you who have met me, you would know that my 5 ‘ 11 ” frame probably wouldn’t get me in to the pro’s. (ok, fine…. 5′10″) For the longest time, I had given up on this dream and moved on with my life. Something happened this week that has given me hope…

Long time NY Yankee fan and comedian/actor, Billy Crystal, signed a contract to play for the Yankees. The next day, against the Pirates, Billy had his first official at bat, wearing the pinstripes of the most storied franchise in the history of sports. He hit a foul ball down the first base line, that almost dropped in for a hit. But it didn’t. He then struck out swinging and he could care less. Sure, he wanted to get a hit but he did what almost NOBODY ever does, he achieved one of his childhood dreams.

So, who knows.. someday I may get to play in the NBA (one way or another). I’m not giving up on my dream again, why should I? What was your childhood dream? Was it really unattainable, or did you just let life get in the way…

Im sorry I have to vent…

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

Part of the reason why I have a blog is so I can vent. Lord knows I can’t talk to my friends about this stuff, they look at me like im crazy when I start talking SEO, PPC, Viral Marketing, etc.

By the way, BLOG is short for web-log, meaning an online journal of sorts.

Yesterday, I had a coaching call with a client that really got me going. I showed him a few really effective techniques for using video to grow his business. He kept saying, “I just don’t have time to be playing around with cameras all day” Then I showed him the example I’m about to show you, and he had a change of heart.

Although, Im not sure I will ever let my kids on youtube (it is way too easy to find trash), It is a remarkable opportunity for small businesses. For one particular company it turned out to be a gold mine.

Check out the screen shot below. The genius behind blend tech decided to put their blenders to the test by blending up anything from cell phones, to ipods, to video game systems, knowing that people would talk about it. And they did.

viral video marketing

His videos have been seen by over 10 million people. Their sales went thru the roof, and they gained instant market share that companies like Oster, and KitchenAid, spent decades and millions of dollars to gain.

Before you say, “Im a personal trainer, I don’t sell blenders, it won’t work”.

I assure you, If you do it right it will work tremendously,

You have heard all the buzz about my new product that will be coming out soon, it will inlude an entire section on viral video. (using video for profit and business growth)

Gotta run, Big East Basketball tournament is on.

Trading Time For Money, and How to Fix This…

Monday, March 10th, 2008

Forgive me for assuming, but it is my initial impression that you went into business for yourself, so you could do your own thing and make enough money to fulfill your dreams. If not, we need to talk:)

The trouble with personal training, fitness pro’s and many other businesses is that we trade our time for money. Unfortunately, time is a fixed variable and there is no known way to create more. So eventually, you run out of time and your income is capped. Am I right?

There are only so many hrs per week, and you can only have so many sessions in one day. Typically, when a great trainer’s schedule becomes full they look to hire more trainers. This is a crucial yet very difficult step. It is hard to find great people and even harder to find people that train, teach or sell as good as you do.

If you have not faced this decision yet, you soon will. (especially if you follow our advice and strategies:)

Here is what I recommend. First, identify your strengths and weaknesses. Hire someone that is strong, where you are weakest.

Second, think about ways to earn income that do not require your time (by the hour)

If you are interested in ways to do this please let me know, and I will write some posts about it. Thanks!
